The Solitude of Prime Numbers

About the book

Alice and Mattia first meet as teenagers in an Italian town. Both carry a private wound: Alice, forced onto skis by her father, was left with a limp after an accident, and Mattia, a brilliant boy who loves math, once abandoned his intellectually disabled twin sister at a park, and she was never found. They recognize the same loneliness in each other and become close, only to drift apart as adults. The title refers to twin primes, pairs of numbers divisible only by themselves and one, separated by a single number, and Giordano uses it as the image of their relationship.

A suitable choice for readers who like emotional, character-driven fiction that stays short. It is especially good for those who want a bittersweet novel about two people who cannot quite connect.
