Sutter Keely is a high school senior in a small Oklahoma town who lives for parties and drinking and thinks of himself as the life of every gathering. After being dumped by his girlfriend, he wakes up on a stranger's lawn and meets Aimee Finecky, a shy girl who reads science fiction and delivers newspapers. Tim Tharp follows Sutter as he decides to make her his project, dragging her into his world. The narrator's cheerful tone slowly cracks as the reader sees the damage caused by his habits and by his missing father.
Teen and adult readers who like honest, sad stories about growing up will find it poignant. It is about how living only in the now can hurt other people as well as yourself.
Inward-looking and thought-provoking; an easy read.
Best for readers like The Empathetic Explorer. Which reader are you?
