The Walking Dead, Vol. 31: The Rotten Core (Comics)

Rick Grimes and his people continue to live in the Commonwealth, a large and apparently orderly community that has hidden tensions beneath its surface. In this volume, the political and social divide between the rulers and everyone else deepens, and Rick finds that what looks like safety depends on lies and brutality. Robert Kirkman's comic keeps its focus on survival in a society trying to rebuild.

It is for readers who have followed the series up to this point, and it is not a place to start. If you are up to date, this arc shows how the story turns toward the question of what a rebuilt civilization deserves to become.

Practical, outward-looking, growth-minded, clear-cut and escapist; an easy read.

Best for readers like The Curious Generalist. Which reader are you?
