Derf Backderf draws on his own summer job as a garbage collector in the Ohio of his youth, and adds a lot of information about how garbage works. The graphic novel follows the crew on its route, with its dirty work, bad smells, strange finds and oddball coworkers, and it also gives a satirical account of the history and economics of waste. His cartoon style is blunt and funny.
It is for readers who like workplace comics and the offbeat humor of alternative cartoonists. You will learn more than you expect about trash, and about the people who haul it.
Clear-cut; an easy read.
Best for readers like The Escapist Adventurer. Which reader are you?
