Three friends, Adrien, Étienne and Nina, meet as teenagers in a small town in the east of France in the 1980s and form a close trio. Decades later, a journalist named Virginie meets Adrien, and the past begins to come into focus. Valérie Perrin shifts between the teenage years and the adult present, and builds a story about friendship, young love and the choices that divide people.

Readers who like warm, character-driven novels about friendship and memory, with a mystery behind them, will find a long, absorbing story. It is for those who enjoy a plot that unfolds slowly and rewards patience.

Inward-looking, contemplative and thought-provoking; a moderate read.

Best for readers like The Empathetic Explorer. Which reader are you?
