David Drucker is a teenager who has difficulty reading social cues and has been mocked at school. After a bad incident, he sits alone at lunch and meets Kit Lowell, a girl whose life has recently collapsed after her father's death and a scandal at school. Kit asks David to help her with a situation she is dealing with, and he becomes a rare friend who tells her the truth. Julie Buxbaum writes a story of teenage friendship and romance in alternating viewpoints, and it deals with grief, honesty and family secrets.
Young-adult readers who like warm, contemporary stories about outsiders finding connection will enjoy this one.
Practical, inward-looking and clear-cut; an easy read.
