Ashford & Simpson Anthology

Nick and Valerie started as songwriters for others before they sang together. Their chemistry on tracks like Ain't No Mountain High Enough shows how well they understood each other.

“We write about what we know and what we see.”

Motown thrived because these two knew how to write for women. They captured Diana Ross and Chaka Khan perfectly by listening to their specific voices.

“And for love's sake, each mistake was a gold mine.”

Solid is about a relationship that survived the industry grind. It feels like a victory lap for a couple that actually liked each other.

“It's more than a spark, it's a flame.”

They stayed married and worked together for decades. It makes their love songs feel earned rather than just performed.
