About the book

Tita De la Garza is the youngest daughter of a Mexican ranch family, and tradition, enforced by her tyrannical mother Mama Elena, says she must stay unmarried and look after her mother until death. When Pedro, the man she loves, marries her sister Rosaura instead, to stay near her, Tita expresses her feelings through cooking, and the food carries her emotions to those who eat it. Laura Esquivel structures the novel by month, each beginning with a recipe, against the background of the Mexican Revolution.

Magical realism, food and a love story full of obstacles make this a quick, sensual read. You might want to cook something afterwards.
