About the book

A bullied boy named Bastian Balthazar Bux steals a book from an antiquarian dealer, Mr Koreander, and hides in his school's attic to read it. The book leads him to Fantasia, where the Childlike Empress is fatally ill and a spreading Nothing consumes the land. The young hunter Atreyu is sent to find a cure, and travels with the luck dragon Falkor. When Bastian realizes he can enter the story, the novel's second half shows what happens when a person's wishes come true, one at a time, at the price of his memories. Michael Ende wrote it in 1979 and structured it with two colors of text for the two worlds.

It suits readers who want a long fantasy about the power and danger of stories. It rewards both adults and young readers.
