Henry and June: From the Unexpurgated Diary of Anaïs Nin
Anaïs Nin's diary covers the years 1931 to 1932, when she was living in Paris with her banker husband Hugo. She meets the American writer Henry Miller and his wife June, and becomes involved with both. The entries, restored here to include what was cut from the earlier published version, describe her passion for Henry, her fascination with June, and her sense of herself as a writer. The book also records Nin's introspection, her lies and her wish to be free.
Anyone who has seen the Philip Kaufman film, or who wants to read the artistic circles of Paris in the early thirties through a first-person account, will get a frank and intimate portrait of three writers' entanglement.
Deep and inward-looking; a moderate read.
