In March 2021, an Air France flight from Paris to New York hits a violent storm and lands safely. Three months later, the identical flight, with the same passengers, lands again, and the authorities have two sets of travelers: the originals and their doubles. The government brings together scientists, military leaders, and religious figures to decide what to do. Hervé Le Tellier follows a group of passengers, including a hitman, a lawyer, a writer, a singer, and a child, as each meets his or her double. The novel moves among genres, from thriller to philosophy.
Readers who like clever speculative fiction with a literary bent will enjoy it. It leaves you with questions about identity: what you would say to another version of yourself.
Balanced in tone; a moderate read.
Best for readers like The Story Seeker. Which reader are you?
