Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego

About the book

This collection of twelve stories places ghosts, witchcraft and urban decay in modern Argentina. In the title story, women set themselves on fire to protest domestic violence. Other tales feature a haunted house, a boy who goes missing, and a neighborhood where a child's body is found. The settings are poor barrios, abandoned houses and cemeteries. Enriquez links horror with the memory of the dictatorship and the violence against women that persists.

For readers of contemporary Latin American fiction who want dark, original storytelling. Those who like unsettling short stories, along the lines of Samanta Schweblin or Shirley Jackson, will find sharp images and social anger here.
