About the book

In the early 2000s, Guy Delisle, a Canadian animator, spent two months in Pyongyang supervising the outsourced production of a French cartoon series. His graphic travelogue records the strange routines of life in North Korea: the state-appointed guide and translator who follow him everywhere, the empty hotel, the giant monuments, the propaganda everywhere and the limited places a foreigner may go. Delisle uses dry humor and simple black and white drawings to describe his encounters and his growing unease, and he brings the daily details of dictatorship into focus.

It is aimed at readers who like graphic memoirs and travel writing from unusual places. Anyone curious about what life is like in one of the world's most closed countries will find it easy to read and revealing.
