About the book

Regina Afton was once part of the most feared clique at her high school, led by Anna Rudy, and she helped them torment other students. Then a violent incident with Anna's boyfriend cost her the group, and now she is the target. The novel follows Regina as she is shunned, humiliated and cornered, while she faces how much she took part in the cruelty she is suffering. Courtney Summers keeps the narration blunt and unsparing about bullying, rumor and revenge.

It is a hard read for young adult readers who prefer unsympathetic, morally tangled narrators to redemptive ones. Come to it for a portrait of social cruelty that refuses to excuse its protagonist, and expect a dark, uncomfortable ending.
