About the book

Virginie Despentes writes about her own experience of rape at seventeen, her time as a sex worker and her career in film and writing, using it to argue about how society treats women's bodies. Against both traditional morality and some forms of feminism, she defends the right to desire, to be ugly, to be violent and to refuse the pressure to be pretty and docile. The title comes from her image of King Kong as a figure both monstrous and vulnerable.

Readers interested in contemporary feminist thought, especially a French and punk voice, will find a blunt, angry, personal manifesto. It is short, direct and meant to provoke arguments.
