Sidda Lee Walker, now a successful theater director in her forties, is engaged to be married and faces an old question about her mother Vivi's turbulent life. Rebecca Wells brings back the Ya-Yas, the Louisiana women friends of Vivi's youth, and follows Sidda's attempts to understand her mother's past while she decides whether to marry. Flashbacks to Vivi's childhood and the group's early friendships make up much of the story, and the novel mixes humor with serious matters of family and forgiveness.
Readers who liked Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood will want to see what comes next. It suits fans of Southern family fiction who enjoy stories about friendship and daughters.
Practical, inward-looking and clear-cut; an easy read.
