About the book

Fern Arable saves a runt piglet from her father's ax and names him Wilbur. When Wilbur is sold to her uncle Homer Zuckerman's farm, he finds the barn lonely, until a gray spider, Charlotte, offers friendship. Learning that Wilbur is to be slaughtered at Christmas, Charlotte weaves words such as "SOME PIG" and "RADIANT" into her web to persuade the farmer that he is special. The rat Templeton helps, grudgingly, and the county fair becomes the test.

A favorite read-aloud for children and a soft reminder for adults. It leaves a gentle thought about loyalty, loss and the way kindness can change a life.
