About the book

Karl Moor, a student, is the idealistic elder son of Count Moor, while his younger brother Franz is a scheming cynic who wants the inheritance. Franz forges a letter that makes their father disown Karl, who in despair becomes the leader of a band of robbers in the Bohemian forests. Friedrich Schiller's first play, written when he was a young man, sets family betrayal against the question of whether violence can serve justice. It helped launch the Sturm und Drang movement in German literature.

It suits readers of classic drama and students of German literature. It is a fierce play about rebellion, brotherly rivalry and the corruption of ideals.
