About the book

Neil Gaiman retells the old Norse myths in his own voice, using the Prose Edda and other sources. He opens with the creation of the world from fire and ice and the ancient giant Ymir, then follows the gods Odin, Thor and Loki through episodes such as Thor losing his hammer and dressing as a bride to get it back, Odin giving an eye for wisdom, the building of Asgard's wall and the death of Baldur. The cycle ends with Ragnarok, the last battle in which the gods fall.

Newcomers and Marvel fans alike get a clear, funny and brisk entry point. Gaiman keeps Loki's trickery at the centre of the book.
