Hannah Wells, a music major at Briar University, has a crush on a football player but lacks the confidence to approach him. To gain his attention, she strikes a deal with Garrett Graham, the captain of the college hockey team whose academic eligibility depends on passing an ethics exam. Hannah agrees to tutor Garrett in exchange for a staged date intended to make her real target jealous. Their arrangement forces them to spend time together, eventually unearthing deep personal histories regarding past trauma and family pressures.
Fans of new adult fiction read this book for its focus on the shift from fake friendship to a genuine relationship within a collegiate setting. It appeals to readers looking for stories where physical chemistry and banter lead to emotional support between two people facing different life stressors. Readers finish the book with a perspective on how vulnerability is necessary for trust and how individual goals can be balanced with a partner’s ambitions.
Insights from Pactul
