The Doctrine and Covenants of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
The Doctrine and Covenants is a collection of revelations, instructions and declarations given mostly to Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter-day Saint movement, and to some of his successors. It contains 138 sections and two official declarations, dealing with the organisation of the Church, priesthood, ordinances, the law of tithing, the Word of Wisdom health code, the three degrees of glory, temples, marriage and the duties of members. It is considered scripture alongside the Bible, the Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price.
It is for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for study and worship, and also for readers of religious history who want to understand Mormon doctrine and practice from a primary source. The text shows how the faith developed through its early decades in the nineteenth century.
Deep, inward-looking and contemplative; a demanding read.
