About the book

Hazel Grace Lancaster is sixteen and lives with thyroid cancer that has spread to her lungs, so she carries an oxygen tank everywhere. Pushed by her mother to attend a support group, she meets Augustus Waters, a former basketball player who lost a leg to bone cancer. They bond over Hazel's favorite novel, An Imperial Affliction, whose author Peter Van Houten lives in Amsterdam, and Gus arranges a trip so Hazel can ask him how the book ends.

Teens and adults who want a love story with dark humor and no sugar-coating will find it here. It shows how two people can face illness with irony and still treat the time they have as large.
