Insights from Tales of Space and Time

“In the days to come, there will be no more dreams.”

Eavey lived in a basement dreaming of the future. It reminded me how we always think later will be better. Usually it is just different.

Seeing the world through the eyes of a Stone Age couple felt strange. Their fears were so physical. We think we are sophisticated but our basic instincts are still theirs.

“The comet was no longer a remote matter for speculation.”

The Star shows how quickly a global catastrophe becomes just another Tuesday. People watched the sky with a mix of awe and boredom. Life finds a way to become routine.

“He was a mere shadow in the presence of this great thing.”

Azuma-zi worshiping the giant dynamo really stuck with me. We basically do that now with our phones. We treat things we do not understand like gods.
