Italo Calvino's linked stories are narrated by Qfwfq, a being who has existed since before the universe took shape. Each story starts from a scientific idea, such as the Big Bang, the formation of the Moon or the expansion of space, and turns it into a comic, tender tale of memory and love. The collection brings together the earlier Cosmicomics, T Zero and other stories into one volume.
It is for readers who like playful, imaginative fiction that treats physics and cosmology as raw material for storytelling. It is also a fine way into Calvino if you want to begin with his wittiest and most inventive work.
Deep, open-ended and thought-provoking; a moderate read.
Best for readers like The Deep Diver. Which reader are you?
